Thermoforming is one of the processes most widely used by plastics processors, recognized for its simplicity and affordability.
According to the Brazilian Plastics Industry Association (ABIPLAST), this process accounts for 7% of all plastics processed in the country, a share that has remained stable in recent years.
Rui Katsuno, founder and president of MTF Termoformadoras and vice president of the Sector Chamber for Machinery and Accessories for the Plastics Industry (CSMAIP) at the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (ABIMAQ), believes there is room in the market to increase this share.
“We have products in development almost every month. Ambulance interior linings are a good example of this evolution: they started with wood, moved on to fiberglass and are now an established thermoforming application—lighter, more hygienic and faster to produce.”
He also cites food packaging, with or without a modified atmosphere, which has gained ground by extending product shelf life.
