Brazil’s plastics processing industry is experiencing a period of growth and modernization. The Brazilian Plastics Industry Association (Abiplast) reports that the sector currently includes around 14,600 plastics processing and recycling companies nationwide, generating more than 400,000 direct jobs.
Also according to Abiplast, approximately 77% of these businesses are micro and small enterprises, around 18% are medium-sized and only 5% are large. These figures show that Brazil’s plastics industry consists primarily of smaller businesses, whose priority is often to ensure the survival of the business before making more substantial investments in new technologies.
Even so, digital transformation is already a reality. According to a survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), around 69% of Brazilian industrial companies use at least one technology associated with Industry 4.0, such as process monitoring, automation, real-time data collection and integrated management systems.
